Course Dates 2024 8th September 14th September 28th September 5th October 26th October 9th November 23rd November Chris has an intimate understanding about the growth habits of fungi, he uses various locations for his mushroom foraging courses and cherry picks the most abundant location for you 2 days prior to any course. Chris's experience with ecology has made him an expert mushroom hunter, you'll get lots of hints and tips on hunting and ID’ing fungi that you won't find in any of the books! After your mushroom hunt you’ll get to enjoy cooked tasters of the wild edibles you’ve found in the forest. WHAT YOU WILL BE LEARNING We will be focusing on locating and identifying fungi that are of interest to foragers (edible & medicinal fungi) by learning both modern and indigenous for the simple and safe identification of fungi. You'll discover different ways you can use the fungi in cuisine and how to preserve your produce to make it last all year round or use them as medicine. A particular feature of the course is learning about the specific habitats fungi grow, this aims to save you potentially years of time when searching for fungi and give you the skills to isolate specific habitats which increase your opportunities for finding a target species. COURSE DETAILS The course will be held within a 30 minute drive from Worthing and are run at various locations. This course includes 2 hours of fungi hunting and 1 hour cooking the edibles we find. The walk will be along country tracks and off paths, you will need to be fit enough to walk the routes. An email will be sent two days prior to the event with the exact location and anticipated conditions for the day. It would be convenient to drive as the locations are remote. On occasions lift shares can be organised. Under 18's are free. WHAT TO BRING Wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and seasons. Bring any refreshments you may need such as water and snacks. Wear comfy walking shoes. If the conditions are expected to be muddy you will be advised suitable footwear in the email Bring a basket or container or cloth bag to store any foraged food you would like to take home. We discourage the use of plastic bags to store foraged food in. A note pad and pen to write down information with. Alternatively; A camera to take pictures or for filming.
