Course Dates 2024 7th September 14th September 28th September 5th October 26th October 9th November 23rd November On a mushroom foraging course we will be taking a circular walk through local fungi habitats renowned for a variety of edible and medicinal fungi. The walk is expected to last for 3 hours but typically will go on a bit longer. The course is ideal for both people starting out on their fungi foraging journey and those who would like to advance their existing mushroom foraging knowledge. We will be focusing on fungi that are of interest to foragers and using educational material to categorise the fungi into groups, this will help not only with your identification keys but also to learn the safety levels that are best applied to groupings. As foragers we rely on our senses and some select hand tools to narrow down the identification of fungi. Demonstrations of infield techniques will be explained for identifying edible fungi and to distinguish them from any lookalike. A particular feature of the course is learning about the specific habitats fungi grow, this aims to save you potentially years of time when searching for specific fungi and give you the skills to isolate specific habitats which increase your opportunities for finding a target fungi. Some of the fungi we come across will have uses for medicine or in bushcraft and survival situations. We will also cover methods for how to extract the medicinal properties from fungi and how to use them in bushcraft and survival situations. At the end of the course we will have a cook up and taster session of the edible fungi we find. Under 18's are free.
